AMA Plays the Victim, Calls for DOJ to ‘Investigate and Prosecute’ Online Views Opposing ‘Gender-Affirming’ Procedures

Claiming to be threatened is often a ploy to squash opposition, conservative commentator and BLEXIT leader Candace Owens said Tuesday.

“It’s always the people that say ‘I don’t feel safe’ that are doing the aggressing. It isn’t safety they are after, it’s compliance. Just something I’ve noticed,” Owens tweeted.

Owens’ observation comes a day after a group of health care organizations, including the American Medical Association, wrote to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, urging him to order the Justice Department to “take swift action to investigate and prosecute all organizations, individuals, and entities” who dispute their position supporting transgender surgery for children and minors.

“Providers of evidence-based gender-affirming health care and their colleagues are facing increased stress,” the letter says, claiming that “an intentional campaign of disinformation” on social media is inciting violence against them:

“The attacks are rooted in an intentional campaign of disinformation, where a few high-profile
users on social media share false and misleading information targeting individual physicians and
hospitals, resulting in a rapid escalation of threats, harassment, and disruption of care across multiple
jurisdictions.

“Our organizations have called on technology companies to do more to prevent this practice
on digital platforms, and we now urge your office to take swift action to investigate and prosecute all
organizations, individuals, and entities responsible.”

Co-signed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, and the Children’s Hospital Association, the letter goes on to declare support for performing “gender-affirming” treatment, not just to adults, but also to “children and adolescents”:

“We stand with the physicians, nurses, mental health specialists, and other health care professionals providing evidence-based health care, including gender-affirming care, to children and adolescents.”

If the Justice Department complies, it will not be the first time the Biden Administration has targeted dissenting speech, NewsBusters notes:

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said that his entire agency would target the ‘emerging threat’ of ‘anti-government sentiment’ during MSNBC’s The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart on Sept. 11. Mayorkas’ chilling statements come after President Joe Biden declared during his notorious Sept. 1 ‘Blood Red’ speech that ‘MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.’

“The Biden DHS has described ‘terrorism threat[s]’ as ‘false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories, and other forms of mis- dis- and mal-information.’

“The implication here is that simply disagreeing with the Biden administration could result in an individual being targeted as a potential threat. The DHS clarified under ‘Additional Details’ that the terrorist threats are ‘motivated’ by, among other things, ‘domestic grievances’ that are ‘cultivated through the consumption of certain online content.’”
