America First Legal and Texas Public Policy Foundation Sue Biden’s ATF for Revoking Federal Firearm Licenses from Law Abiding Citizens Over Paperwork Errors

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Legal (AFL) partnered with the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) in a lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for unlawfully enforcing the Gun Control Act of 1968 and revoking federal firearm licenses from firearm dealers across America over “paperwork errors.” Jointly, AFL and TPPF represent Central Texas Gun Works.
Historically, the ATF has rarely revoked federal firearm licenses and only did so for the worst actors. In 2013, the ATF only sought revocation of federal firearm licenses in 81 of the over 10,500 inspections.
In summer 2021, the Biden Administration announced a new policy to enforce the Gun Control Act of 1968 against licensees who inadvertently fail to comply. Biden’s Acting Assistant Director of the ATP, George Lauder, issued a memorandum instructing ATF officials to revoke federal firearm licenses for a single violation in many cases.
Since then, revocations have increased over 500% as the ATF has begun revoking licenses based on inadvertent paperwork errors.
The Biden Administration’s reckless policy has put all law-abiding licensees at risk of revocation for something as minor as a paperwork error. America First Legal will continue to defend the Second Amendment and protect American citizens from the Biden Administration’s attempt to bend the law to advance its radical agenda.
