Former Vice President Joe Biden stood silently at the podium after President Trump challenged him to name one law enforcement group that has endorsed him.
“He doesn’t have any law support. He has law enforcement support. Almost nothing. Who do you have? Name one group that supports you. Name one group that came out and supported you. Go ahead. Think, we have time,” Trump demanded of Biden during a conversation about the protests on police funding in Tuesday night’s presidential debate.
Biden demurred, saying they didn’t have time for him to answer the question.
“Name one law enforcement group that came out and supported you,” the president demanded again. “I don’t think there are any.”
Earlier in September, more than 175 current and former law enforcement officers and officials endorsed the former vice president, according to Fox News. The group consisted of former U.S. attorneys, former state attorneys general, former sheriffs, and former police chiefs.
The issue of law enforcement has become a hot-button issue as police brutality against people of color was thrust into the national spotlight following the deaths of multiple black Americans at the hands of law enforcement officers.
