BREAKING: Parents Defending Education wins major case for parents!
This is a HUGE win for parents — and it happened thanks to you.
Yesterday, Parents Defending Education’s lawsuit against Wellesley Public Schools (MA) ended in a settlement agreement that requires the school to stop using “affinity groups,” which wrongly had separated students by race at school.
“Affinity groups” have caught on nationwide. In Wellesley Public Schools, students received an email to a “safe space” that was noted as “for our Asian/Asian-American and Students of Color, *not* for students who identify only as White.”
As a result of PDE’s settlement, Wellesley Public Schools will issue a statement that it never should have – and never will again – suggested that children can be excluded from school-sponsored events because of their race.
And our settlement agreement goes even further, too, as Wellesley Public Schools has also suspended its draconian “Bias Reporting Procedure” to punish speech judged to show “conscious or unconscious bias” and will never reinstate it.
It is appalling that an American public school consciously implemented a policy to segregate students based on race and ethnicity in the first place.
That’s why PDE filed this complaint against Wellesley — and why today I’m thrilled that the school district has agreed to respect the First and Fourteenth Amendments.
But the impact of this decision doesn’t stop in one school district or state.
This settlement sends a clear message that racially segregating students in public schools is wrong – and there will be consequences.
Excluding children from activities based on immutable characteristics is not only immoral, but unconstitutional.
Thanks to your support, Parents Defending Education will continue to defend students’ and parents’ rights across the country. We will not tolerate a return to segregation in 2022!
Our kids’ educational experience should nurture their development into happy, resilient, free-thinking, and educated citizens. When it doesn’t, we’re proud to stand alongside our brave members like you, Chip, as we hold schools accountable.
Thank you for standing with us here at Parents Defending Education — and the parents and children in Wellesley Public Schools — to restore a healthy, non-political education for our kids.
