Richard Grenell: Trump told me he wants to run again

Former President Donald Trump wants to run for the White House again, according to a top ally.

“He’s told me personally, multiple times, that he does want to run again,” Richard Grenell, who served as an ambassador and acting director of national intelligence during the Trump administration, told Newsmax on Saturday.

“We’ll see if that holds,” Grenell said, adding that he believes there is a “long way to go.”

Trump has kept a relatively low profile since flying to Florida on President Biden’s Inauguration Day last week, but he did offer a hint to the Washington Examiner about his future plans when asked on Friday. “We’ll do something, but not just yet,” he said at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

Biden beat Trump in the 2020 election 306-232 in the Electoral College. In the national popular vote, the Democrat received 81.2 million votes to Trump’s 74.2 million.

After getting impeached a second time by the House on a charge of incitement of insurrection in connection to the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot, Trump faces a Senate trial set for next month, as well as the prospect of being barred from holding office again.

Grenell also shot down talk about Trump forming his own Patriot Party.

“No, we should not start the Patriot Party. We should work very hard on the Republican Party,” he said.

“Clearly, Donald Trump is a Republican and should run again as a Republican,” Grenell added later.
