Intelligence reports hold that Russian President Vladimir Putin is eagerly readying plans to interfere with our 2020 presidential election while he already is clandestinely pushing to get Socialist Bernie Sanders the Democratic nomination.
The Left-leaning media interpret this to mean that A) Putin wants to keep President Trump in office to serve as his puppet and B) Putin wants Sanders as the Democratic nominee because he would be the easiest candidate for Trump to beat.
It’s all nonsense. Putin doesn’t give a damn who occupies the White House. He will do whatever he wants regardless of what any American president says or does. Besides, as far as Putin is concerned, what’s not to like about a Democratic president?
Who doesn’t remember the incident of the forgotten live microphone in 2012? On it Barack Obama was caught whispering to Russia’s then-President Dmitry Medvedev, “This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.” To which Medvedev replied, “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.”
More flexibility to do what? Or, perhaps more to the point, to not do what?
Putin certainly wasn’t cowed when Obama issued the equivalent of the school yard chant, “Hey, cut that out!” when Putin annexed Crimea and invaded Ukraine in 2014. Was he assuring Medvedev two years earlier that he would grant Putin a free hand in Crimea and Ukraine, but only after his re-election?
The Leftist press predictably helped sweep all of this under the rug. What would have happened to Trump if he’d been caught on an open mic promising Putin he’d make some sort of accommodation for him after his election?
Putin’s sole purpose in interfering in our elections – and make no mistake, he has, is, and will continue to do so – is to sow dissention, confusion, and chaos among Americans; to get us to distrust our most cherished institution, our democratic elections. He interfered in the 2016 election on behalf of Trump rather than the more malleable Obama clone, Hillary Clinton, because he realized that his interference would eventually be discovered. If he’d supported Clinton, the Leftist media would have quickly turned it into a nonstory and there would have been no turmoil in the United States. So he supported Trump, knowing full well that the Left and its handmaidens in the press would latch onto his interference and worry it like a puppy with a new chew toy.
Putin played the American media like a tin whistle and he got his wish: dissention, confusion, chaos, and distrust in our elections. As a bonus he even got our Congress to impeach the president to sap America’s national energy while he moved blithely along, denying everything, cheerfully indifferent to America’s whining, “Keep your hands off our elections.”
