William Barr, former attorney general, said Thursday that Trump should not be the GOP’s presidential nominee in 2024.

“I don’t think he should be our nominee, the Republican Party nominee, and I think the Republicans have a big opportunity. It would be a big mistake to put him forward,” Barr said on the Newsmax program Spicer & Co.

“If he was the nominee, then I would vote for him over the Democrat,” Barr stated.

“Maybe your audience doesn’t want to hear this, but Trump ran weaker than the Republican ticket in Arizona, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania — 75,000 Republicans went to the polls and voted straight Republican ticket in Arizona and didn’t vote for him, 60,000 in Wisconsin, 60,000 in Pennsylvania. That’s why he lost the election,” Barr revealed.

Despite hinting at a potential 2024 run, Trump has not made a formal announcement.

“The campaign finance laws don’t really allow you to discuss that unless you’re going to literally go through a different process,” Trump said during an interview on the Full Send Podcast in March.

“So, I think a lot of people are going to be really happy. You guys might be really happy but I think a lot of people are going to be very happy. But, I’ll wait,” he said then.

There was a reported tense exchange between Barr and Trump over Trump’s claims of election fraud in 2020. Barr was quoted as calling Trump’s claims “bullsh*t.”

WATCH:

Barr told NBC in March that Trump had no understanding of what the roles of the president and Justice Department were.

Trump released a letter responding to Barr’s claims, describing him as “slow” and “lethargic” and a “big disappointment.”
As a result of the letter, Barr called Trump “childish” and claimed he had thrown a “tantrum.”

The former attorney general also rebuked Trump repeatedly during a March NBC appearance, saying Trump did not fit his “idea of a president.” In another NBC interview, Barr described working with Trump as “wrestling an alligator” and said he enjoyed being “surrounded by yes men.”

Last week Steve Bannon, once Trump’s chief strategist when he was president, ripped into Barr calling him a liar about conducting an investigation into vote fraud.

Trump held a rally in Nebraska over the weekend to support GOP candidate for governor Charles Herbster. Herbster has been accused of inappropriate behavior around women and Trump came to defend him.

The Washington Examiner reported:

The Nebraska Examiner published a piece in mid-April in which eight women, including a state senator who spoke on the record, alleged that Herbster touched them inappropriately.

Numerous women told the outlet that the Nebraska Republican would grope them after they greeted him or posed for a photo. Herbster has adamantly denied the allegations and is suing some of his accusers. He has also suggested the allegations were politically motivated.

Trump has faced his own slew of sexually depraved accusations, which range from sexual harassment to rape, all of which he denies. He repeatedly addressed the claims against Herbster at the rally, saying he traveled to support his longtime friend because he was being “badly maligned and it’s a shame.”

“He’s been my friend for 30 years,” he continued. “He’s the most innocent human being. He’s the last person to do any of this stuff. And even the stuff they’re accusing him of — what do they say? He talked to somebody? He talked. It’s a disgrace what they’ve done.”

Following his defense of Herbster, Trump turned his ire toward Sen. Ben Sasse and Rep. Don Bacon, two prominent Nebraska Republicans who have occasionally sparred with the former president.

With regard to Sasse, Trump called the senator a “total embarrassment” who was leaving the state “poorly represented” before discussing how they met.

During the rally, Trump said that Democrats are “against God, they’re against guns, they’re against oil, they’re against Law enforcement.”

He went on to say “This is the year we are going to take back the House, we are going take back the Senate, we are going to back America!”

If Trump does decide to run again, one of his staunchest foes may jump in the race to challenge him.

Kari Donovan reported for Republic Brief:

Never Trumpers believe that the American people will want what they are pitching out.

It is like they never learned to readjust their thinking or do any self-evaluation at all. So they certainly are not thinking of themselves as representatives of the people- because they apparently are not paying attention to what the people are saying and doing.

In this example of a strange Never Trumper, ‘crying’ Adam Kinzinger- who has retired from his position as a US Rep. is now oddly thinking of running for the position of President of the United States of America- if Donald J. Trump runs again.

Kinzinger, whose feelings were so hurt- and who is fragile that he openly sobbed at a hearing about the events at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. Those actions earned him a seat on the Democrat Dominated US House Committee to persecute supporters of Trump, and shortly after accepting the fellowship of Trump haters- Kinzinger declared that he was leaving office and not seeking elections in Illinois.

Media reports this week indicate that Kinzinger is now ready to face Trump down on the national stage.
