(TNS) It appears as though the Deep State is getting queasy that partisan hacks in Congress — that would be Democrats — are intentionally and very obviously distorting intelligence reports for their party’s political gain.
And House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff of California comes immediately to mind.

You recall last week that the ‘paper of record,’ The New York Times, published yet another ‘bombshell’ claim that ‘U.S intelligence officials’ believe that Russia, ‘again,’ attempting to intervene in the 2020 election on behalf of President Donald Trump, only to be refuted within hours.
Mind you, we know that Russia didn’t “interfere” on behalf of Trump in the 2016 election, as even Robert Mueller admitted, so there could never even be a 2020 redux in the first place. But…details, details, right?
In any event, this is where Schiff comes in.
According to NBC News on Wednesday, some intelligence officials are upset that their alleged assessments are being ‘distorted’ intentionally for political gain, but ostensibly by ‘both sides’ — Democrats and the president:
U.S. intelligence officials are concerned that their latest findings about Russian election interference are being distorted and weaponized for political gain by both sides, current and former officials told NBC News.
At issue is the secret analysis presented to the House Intelligence Committee Feb. 13 by the top intelligence official in charge of election security, Shelby Pierson. Current and former officials who spoke to NBC News this week say the misinformation and controversy surrounding that briefing have left them on the defensive, and worried that the public is not getting a full appreciation of the threat of foreign election interference in 2020.
Last week, a bombshell report in The New York Times said Pierson and other briefers in the meeting had told lawmakers “that Russia was interfering in the 2020 campaign to try to get President Trump re-elected.”
Intelligence officials say that was an overstatement, fueled, they believe, by a misinterpretation by some Democratic lawmakers on the committee.
Two intelligence officials told NBC News this week that Pierson did not tell lawmakers that intelligence showed Russia was actively working to help the president’s re-election campaig
The report goes on to talk about “nuance” — that is, intelligence that doesn’t necessarily paint a clear picture, which makes sense because most of the time it doesn’t.
What’s different this time around is that the Deep State also claimed that its intel shows that Moscow is also targeting Bernie Sanders’ campaign:
Adding to the complex picture, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders disclosed Friday that he had been briefed that the Russians were trying to help his campaign. He didn’t say how or why. According to an indictment of Russians by former special counsel Robert Mueller, the Russians also sought to boost Sanders in 2016.
NBC News repeated the claim that Russia only sought to help Trump in 2016, which is blatantly untrue; Moscow then, as now, sought to ‘interfere’ on both sides, and in 2016, Trump’s opponent was Hillary Clinton. But this wasn’t new; Russia, and before, the Soviet Union, has been “meddling” in U.S. democratic processes for decades.
But this NBC News report smacks of panic. It’s almost a certainty that the initial false ‘bombshell’ information came from Democrats and, specifically, Schiff, though no proof has surfaced. So in order to do some damage control, here comes ‘unnamed officials’ from the Deep State who feel compelled to point a finger at House Democrats without calling them out by name because they are in charge of the lower chamber and its committees.
So that they retain some semblance of credibility — so they can continue to be a believable source of “intelligence” that harms Trump, whom they still loathe.

In any event, the intentional distortion of intelligence, either by elements of the Intelligence Community or Democrats, helps Moscow achieve its objective of sewing distrust in our electoral system.
Bonchie at Red State has a solution, though: “These kinds of games are exactly why the White House should just stop briefing these people. They aren’t looking to use the information to actually do their jobs. Instead, it’s just political fodder and is being used as such. At some point, enough has to be enough.”
