FOIA : A Powerful Weapon against Government Overreach !

As we’ve learned in the recent battle against critical race theory (CRT) being taught in schools, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) can be a powerful tool at exposing leftist infiltration of our government institutions and government overreach. Let’s take a closer look at FOIA and some useful resources to help Conservative warriors initiate a FOIA request to hold those in government accountable to the public.
The Freedom of Information Act or FOIA was signed into law by President Johnson on July 4, 1966. FOIA requires Federal executive branch agencies to make available for public inspection a myriad of documents including opinions in the adjudication of cases, staff training manuals or any record that could be reasonably requested. There are nine exemptions to FOIA including classified information, material used in an ongoing criminal investigation, and trade secrets. A full list of these exemptions can be found here
Let’s explore how to file a FOIA request and list some great resources to assist the filer. Step one is to make sure the information you are requesting is not available online. If the information is not available you can begin to write your request. This is not as easy as it sounds especially when requesting all documents on a specific subject. Below are some great resources that include tips on filing a FOIA request:

Nonprofit organization MuckRock has a treasure trove of information regarding many aspects of the FOIA filing process.
FOIA.Gov is the official Federal government site with tips on filing a FOIA request
When you are ready to file your request the Federal government’s official website allows you to submit your FOIA request to many agencies online
In addition to the Federal government, all states have provisions similar to FOIA that allow the public to request documents relating to government.

A simple FOIA request can provide tremendous insight into the growing government Leviathan that is continuously eroding freedom in our country. Remember President Reagan said “Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves.”
