Gallup: Only 36% Approve of Biden’s Handling of Russia, 55% Disapprove

(CNS News) — A new survey shows that President Joe Biden’s job approval rating among U.S. adults is at 41%, while 55% disapprove. In addition, only 36% of Americans approve of his handling of Russia (and Ukraine), while 55% disapprove.
Among independent voters, only 35% approve of Biden’s job performance, which is down from 61% one year ago.
In the survey conducted Feb. 1-17, Gallup asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Joe Biden is handling his job as president?” and “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Joe Biden is handling [issue]?”
For his “overall job” performance, 41% approved and 55% disapproved. On the economy, only 36% approved while 62% disapproved.
And on Biden’s handling of “the situation with Russia,” only 36% of American adults approved while 55% disapproved.
“Biden’s overall job approval has shown no meaningful improvement since last fall when it declined after the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan,” said Gallup. “High inflation and the continuing coronavirus pandemic are likely two factors keeping Biden’s approval rating down.”
One year ago, in February 2021, Biden’s job approval was at 57%. It has fallen 16 percentage points since then.
“Independents are most critical of Biden’s economic stewardship, with 30% approving, compared with ratings of 35% or higher on the other issues,” said Gallup. “Republicans also rate Biden slightly worse on the economy than on the other issues.”
On Biden’s job performance, only 35% of independents approve, 7% of Republicans, and 79% of Democrats.
“President Biden’s overall job approval score is stuck in the low 40s, and Americans are no more positive about his handling of key issues, except for the coronavirus response,” reported Gallup. “But even on that issue, less than half of Americans approve of the job he is doing.”
“Since the honeymoon phase of his presidency, Biden has seen his support drop among all political groups,” said the polling firm. “His ratings among Republicans cannot go much lower, so further declines in his approval rating depend on whether Democrats’ and independents’ evaluations of him worsen.”
