Sanders, an Arkansas native and daughter of the state’s former Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee, served as former President Donald Trump’s press secretary from 2017 to 2019 and was only the third woman in American history to fill that role.
Sanders joins a GOP primary field that includes Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge. The state’s current governor, Republican Asa Hutchinson, is unable to seek reelection due to term limits.
Trump carried the state of Arkansas last November over President Biden 62.4% to 34.8%
