There will be Terrible Times in the Last Days – The Holy Scriptures are Able to Make You Wise

Illustration of Moses and Aaron confronting the magicians in Egypt. Story found in Exodus chapter 7, verses 1 to 13.

by Brian Shilhavy

The two statements contained in the title of this article come directly from the Bible, in Paul’s second letter to Timothy.

Here are the words of Paul describing “the last days.”

As you read the text in this letter written over 2000 years ago, see if they describe the culture we are currently living in here in 2023.

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.

People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God–having a form of godliness but denying its power.

Have nothing to do with them.

They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.

Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth–men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected.

But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their foolishness will be clear to everyone. (2 Timothy 3:1-9)

For the people living during the time period that Paul wrote this letter to Timothy, they truly were living in “the last days.”

The time frame from when this was written was just years before the destruction of the city of Jerusalem and the Great Temple in Jerusalem, which completed an “era” of human history.

Today, we are also coming to the end of an “era” of human history, which many are referring to as “The Great Reset.”

It could be the ultimate end of the human race, where the prophecies of Jesus Christ will come true where he will return to earth and destroy the heavens and the earth with fire. (2 Peter chapter 3)

Or it could be the beginning of a new “era” with a significantly reduced human population that survives and remains on earth.

We don’t need to know which “era” awaits us to take action NOW to prepare for what is coming, because that preparation is the same, no matter which “end” is coming.

Truth vs. Deception

Living in the “last days” of this current, fading “era” of human history, it is becoming harder and harder to distinguish “truth” from deceptions based on lies.

Jesus made it very clear, when he walked this earth in human form, that there were only 2 classes of human beings on the earth.

Those who followed God and accepted Jesus as the savior of the world, the prophesied Messiah, and those who served Satan, who controls the world system, which includes, finances, politics, and religion.

All other ways of classifying human beings, such as by race, nationality, religion, gender, social/economic status, or any other way of classifying human beings, is wrong, and is not part of the “truth.”

One in Christ: Abolishing Discrimination and Class Warfare in the Messianic New World Order

Jesus claimed to be the ONLY way to God, and he claimed to not only reveal truth, but that he actually was the very definition of “truth”.

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

What does it mean to say “I am the truth”?

It means that everything he says, all of the words that come out of his mouth, are true.

This is what he said to ethnic Jews who claimed to be physical descendants of Abraham and claimed to represent “truth.”

Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say.

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! (John 8:43-45)

But to some of those same ethnic Jews who claimed to be physical descendants of Abraham, Jesus said:

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

We see here that truth is NOT dependent upon genealogy, nationality, or ethnicity. It is dependent upon whether or not you believe the teaching of Jesus Christ, recognizing that he, and he alone, always speaks truth.

Truth = freedom. Lies = slavery.

Who are the Children of Abraham?

In this second letter to Timothy, as Paul talks about those who oppose the truth in the last days, he mentions an example from the Old Testament with Moses and two men named who opposed him, “Jannes and Jambres.”

Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth–men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their foolishness will be clear to everyone. (2 Timothy 3:8-9)

These two names do not appear anywhere else in the Bible, but they were known to Paul even though the event he writes about happened thousands of years earlier.

Other literature and traditions identify these two men as two of the magicians, perhaps the leading two, who confronted Moses with their magic arts, as Moses demanded that the Pharaoh of Egypt let the Israelites leave Egypt, as God had directed him to do.

This is recorded in the 7th chapter of Exodus:

Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I have made you as God to Pharaoh; and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet. You shall speak all that I command you; and Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land. I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

But Pharaoh will not listen to you, and I will lay my hand on Egypt, and bring out my armies, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. The Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh, when I stretch out my hand on Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.”

Moses and Aaron did so. As Yahweh commanded them, so they did. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Perform a miracle!’ then you shall tell Aaron, ‘Take your rod, and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it become a serpent.’”

Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, as Yahweh had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers. They also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same thing with their enchantments.

For they each cast down their rods, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods. Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he didn’t listen to them; as Yahweh had spoken. (Exodus 7:1-13)

Paul wrote that these men, referred to with words such as “sorcerers” and “magicians”, became exposed for their “foolishness,” which was seen in the rest of the story of how the Israelites plundered the wealth of the Egyptians, as God killed all of their first-born males, and then wiped out Pharaoh and his army at the parting of the Red Sea.

Those who trusted in these “sorcerers and magicians” were made into fools and public spectacles, starting with this story where the rod of Aaron and Moses that turned into a serpent ate the serpents that came from the rods of these “sorcerers and magicians”.

We don’t use terms like “sorcerers and magicians” in “modern” western culture anymore.

But they still exist. They just go by different names: “doctors.”

In the ancient world, if one was sick, they would seek out the local temple priest who practiced sorcery and witchcraft to seek healing.

For more information on this topic, please see Who were “Doctors” in the Ancient World? section in this article:

Are You Ready for the Collapse of the Medical System?

The people of Israel, after they left Egypt, were given the Law through Moses which forbade the children of God from seeking out these healers referred to as “sorcerers and magicians”, as they were to seek out God (Yahweh) alone for healing.

If you will diligently listen to Yahweh your God’s voice, and will do that which is right in his eyes, and will pay attention to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you, which I have put on the Egyptians; for I am Yahweh who heals you. (Exodus 15:26)

In the New Testament portion of the Bible, Jesus is presented as the one who heals, and is the only true “doctor.” For more info on this topic, please see:

There is Only One True Doctor

In the original language of the New Testament documents, which is Koine Greek, there is a word that is used that represents medicines and those who use them, and that Greek word is pharmakeia, or its cognates such as pharmakos.

It is this Greek word group that certain English words were developed from, such as pharmacy, pharmaceutical, etc.

So how did the English translators of the New Testament translate these Greek words into English?

It is used in this section of Paul’s letter to the believers in Galatia:

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)

It is translated as “witchcraft” and included in the list of evil actions.

The more proper English translation would be “medicine” or the “practice of medicine or pharmaceutical products,” but none of the English translators have had the courage to use this proper translation, so high does our western culture revere “medicine” and “doctors.”

It is also used in the last book of the Bible, the book of Revelation:

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars–their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. (Revelation 21:8)

In this verse, “those who practice magic arts” is translated from pharmakos, but the proper English word to translate this would have been “doctors” or “physicians.”

Again, none of the translators of the English Bibles would dare to use such words as “doctors” or “physicians” here, so high does our western culture revere these professions, so they used other English words that translate the intent of the New Testament writers, which is better translated as “sorcerers and magicians“, the same profession as the Egyptian “healers” who opposed Moses and opposed the truth.

Here it is used again in the book of Revelation:

The light of a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world’s great men.

By your magic spell all the nations were led astray. In her was found the blood of prophets and of the saints, and of all who have been killed on the earth. (Revelation 18:23-24)

Can this section in the last book of the Bible be more obvious as to what is happening today in these “end times”?

Magic spell” is the English translation for pharmakeia – “medicines”.

Through these medicines “all the nations were led astray,” with many people “killed on the earth” which is exactly what has happened since COVID by the hands of doctors, who more accurately should be called “sorcerers and magicians“.

And here is another passage in Revelation where this word is used, that also seems to have predicted what we observed by the COVID scam that destroyed so many lives:

The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood–idols that cannot see or hear or walk.

Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts. (Revelation 9:20-21)

In the last days it says that much of mankind will be killed by “plagues”, and that those who survive will still not repent of their evil deeds, including pharmakeia (magic arts).

Do we see this today?

Yes, of course we do!

Even those “doctors” who opposed the COVID pharmakeia are still fighting to keep their “medical licenses” so they can continue to profit from the Satanic beast system, and develop “safer” magic and sorcery products.

They are not “repenting,” which means to change one’s mind about something they believe is true, but actually is a lie and not true.

How to Discern Truth

Now we come to the second statement in the title of this article: “The Holy Scriptures are Able to Make You Wise.”

This statement also comes from Paul’s second letter to Timothy in the 3rd chapter:

You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings–what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured.

Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:10-17)

The first thing we have to take note of in this passage, is the fact that those who choose to follow the truth, by following Jesus, will be attacked and persecuted by the evil actors in our culture who are liars and deceivers.

They are the majority (liars), and we are the minority (truth seekers).

I wrote an entire article on this topic recently:

All True Believers in Jesus Christ Will Suffer

Some of us will give up our lives for taking a stand for the truth, but we will die free, rather than living as slaves to the sorcerers and magicians.

Remember the words of Jesus:

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:31-32, 35-36 – emphasis added)

It is so sad to me to see how the Bible, a collection of the “ancient scriptures,” is so seldom read or studied in modern culture, and yet it is the most incredible collection of writings ever written, with no other piece of literature, either modern or ancient, coming close to the number of copies that exist and have been translated into other languages.

Even if someone didn’t believe that these writings were “inspired”, why wouldn’t everyone at least want to read the best selling book of all time and learn from its ancient wisdom??

Paul refers to “the holy Scriptures” which he says “are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” as “God-breathed“, and “useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

When he wrote this letter, the “holy Scriptures” referred to the Old Testament, which included the writings of Moses in the first 5 books of the Old Testament, as well as all the prophecies and other writings the Old Testament includes.

The Greek word that is translated here as “God-breathed“, or in some translations as “inspired by God“, is only used this one time in the New Testament.

So to get a better understanding of what this word meant in the ancient Greek language, I used a Greek dictionary, the 10-volume set originally written in German by Gerhard Kittel and Gerhard Friedrich (Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, 1968 by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co.), to see how other classical Greek writers used this term.

This word refers very generally to all wisdom as coming from God (Ps.-Phocylides, 122 [Diehl, II, 101), then more specifically to dreams given by God as distinct from natural dreams (Herophilus in Plut. Plac. Phil., V,2 [II 904 f.]). Vol. VI page 453.

Paul is using the term to refer to the Old Testament, as the collection of writings in the New Testament had not all even been written yet, let alone collected into a single volume known as the “New Testament”.

We see especially in the historical account of Moses receiving the “Law”, which included the “Ten Commandments,” as being dictated to Moses on top of Mt. Sinai.

The Greek word in 2 Timothy 3:16 that is translated as “Scripture,” is graphe, and it is used for some of the other authors of what is today known to us as the New Testament.

Peter, who was alive when Jesus walked the earth and spent 3 years with him, used graphe in referring to the writings of Paul:

Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.

He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. (2 Peter 3:15-16)

Peter also wrote this about “Scripture”:

We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:16-21)

Conclusion: Study the Bible and Pray to Discern Truth in these “Last Days”

There are a lot of people in the public spotlight in these dark, evil days that are publishing their views and opinions as to what is going on, but NONE of them contain the whole truth (including myself), and most of them are actually deceived and mostly publishing various versions of Satan’s lies sprinkled in with a little bit of truth to deceive people.

Only Jesus speaks the WHOLE TRUTH, because he IS the Truth, and he hasn’t stopped talking.

If you want to discern truth in today’s evil society, you must study the scriptures, and spend time each day talking to God through prayer.

Truth is eternal and never changes.

But how that truth applies to YOU, only YOU can know, as you study the Word of God as recorded in the Bible, and as you listen to the Holy Spirit that is promised to all of us who have trusted in Jesus, and not the sorcerers and magicians and the “merchants” who fund them, the ones I usually refer to as “Globalists” (corporate bankers and Wall Street and Silicon Valley Billionaires).

Jesus is presented in the Bible as the only true doctor, the only true “pastor/shepherd,” and the only one who can save you from the judgments of God that are about to be unleashed on all those who serve Satan.

Everyone else is a false prophet if they claim to be able to heal you, shepherd you, or save you.

False Prophets Now Lead Their Deceived Followers as America Stands at the Brink of Collapse

And remember what Paul wrote in this second letter to Timothy about the religious class, those who claim to be “believers,” which today are mainly the “Christians” in the Corporate Churches:

[They are] having a form of godliness but denying its power.

Have nothing to do with them.
