VP Kamala Harris Next In Long Line Of Democrats To Test Positive For COVID-19

The White House announced on Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris has tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement from Harris’ Press Secretary Kirsten Allen was issued, saying,

“Today, Vice President Harris tested positive for Covid-19 on rapid and PCR tests. She has exhibited no symptoms, will isolate and continue to work from the vice president’s residence. She has not been a close contact to the President or First Lady due to their respective recent travel schedules. She will follow CDC guidelines and the advice of her physicians. The Vice President will return to the White House when she tests negative.”

Harris is the latest in a number of top Democrats who have recently come down with the virus.

Not In Contact With The President

Thankfully, Harris was on a trip to California, and not in close contact with President Joe Biden or First Lady Jill Biden. Biden and Harris were last together on April 18 for the annual White House Easter Egg Roll.

The Vice President has been vaccinated and received two booster shots.

Currently, there are no COVID restrictions in place in the White House. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said there are no plans to implement any. “We are continuing to implement the return-to-work policy and feel we have the measures necessary to do that.”

Democrat Outbreak In March

Back in March, the COVID bug spread through the Democrat Party during a retreat in Philadelphia. Joe Biden spoke at the event, but did not contract the virus. A total of seven Democrat House members who were at the Philadelphia meeting tested positive, as well as two who were not. Harris’ husband Douglas Emhoff also tested positive in March.

Earlier this month, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tested positive, after kissing the President on the cheek and holding his hand. At the time White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki claimed it did not meet White House rules for close contact. Fox News Channel’s Peter Doocy asked Psaki about Pelosi’s close contact with the President,

“How can you guys say that President Biden was not a close contact with speaker Pelosi when there’s video of the speaker kissing him?” Psaki’s convenient answer, “Their definition of it is 15 minutes of contact within a set period of time, within six feet. It did not meet that bar.”

No Escaping COVID For Multi-Vaxxed Democrats

The outbreak that started in March seems to have carried over into April for the Democrats. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki battled her second bout of COVID in March, as did Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre

Following Washington D.C.’s annual Gridiron Dinner earlier this month, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, along with  Harris’ communication director Jamal Simmons, also came down with the virus.

On Tuesday, along with Vice President Harris, Democrat Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) also announced positive COVID tests.
